Deputy Ward Statement on Landlord Licensing Proposition (P.20)

Following constructive discussions with the Environment Minister and the lodging by him of regulations addressing landlords licensing (P.33), I will be postponing the debate on P.20 until 11th May sitting.

The purpose of the P.20 proposition was to direct the Minister to lodge the needed regulations to introduce a landlord licensing scheme. I am pleased that the Environment Minister has agreed to lodge these regulations without a full States debate first. P.20 remains lodged and can be debated if necessary.

I hope that we can quickly reach a positive outcome on this matter, and the assembly will support this change which will provide a step forward for both tenants and landlords.
