Geoff Southern to stand for re-election as Deputy of St Helier Central
Deputy Geoff Southern will be standing for re-election as a Reform Jersey candidate in the constituency of St Helier Central.
The longest serving Reform Jersey member, Geoff has represented St Helier No. 2 District – now expanded to St. Helier Central – for the past 21 years and intends to seek a further 4 years from his voters.
Never afraid to take on the big issues, Geoff has been at the heart of progressive politics in Jersey. His successes have included: securing funding for the development of the Millennium Town Park, introducing redundancy rights, and anti-discrimination law and reducing the cost of seeing a GP for those on low incomes.
He said – “With the help of my Reform Jersey colleagues, I am proud of the progress we have made on such issues as the levels of the minimum and living wage, employment rights, and insecure employment. But there remains much that needs to be done, especially on the housing crisis and access to affordable health and social care for all. The reduction in GP costs brought about by intense Reform Jersey pressure, was only the start”.
“If we are to create a health service we can be proud of, we must ensure that we can recruit and retain high-quality specialists at all levels. This may require new levels of co-operation between our near neighbours and major health trusts in the UK.”
“Above all we must cultivate an inclusive community. All too often recently voters have been left with the feeling that they have been misled by ministers obsessed with “business as usual.” For straight talking and honest answers, this Deputy once more asks the voters of St. Helier Central to put their faith in him.”
